Notes from Space
The space diary of Israel’s first astronaut (and the inspiration for Reaching for the Stars), Ilan Ramon, was discovered five years ago in a town in Texas. The pages fell 37 miles through the atmosphere after space shuttle Columbia tragically exploded on February 1st, 2003. The journal is now being put on display at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem starting this week.
“It’s almost a miracle that it survived _ it’s incredible,” Zalmona [the museum's curator] said. There is “no rational explanation” for how it was recovered when most of the shuttle was not, he said.
